PURPOSE:To manufacture an alkaline battery with high leakage resistance by forming a film of alkylthiol such as octadecanethiol on the surface or part of at least one of a container can and a cover or a current collector and a gasket. CONSTITUTION:A button type silver oxide battery measuring 6.8mm in outer diameter and 2.6mm in height consists of a negative can 1, a negative mix 2, an electrolyte impregnation material 3, a separator 4, a positive mix 5, a positive can 6, a gasket 7, and an electrolyte. Octadecanethiol is attached to the surface 1a of the negative can 1 and the surface 6a of the positive can 6. When the surfaces of the can and the cover or the current collector or the gasket, or a specific part relating to sealing is covered with alkylthiol such as octadecanethiol, the covered surface is shut out from air, and deterioration caused by oxygen and moisture in air is retarded. The battery can be assembled without microscopic deterioration in quality on the surface.
