PURPOSE:To provide a production process for fatty acid lower alkyl esters where the fatty acid lower alkyl esters can be produced in high yield, as the residual fatty acid is reduced to a level of an extremely low concentration. CONSTITUTION:In the reaction of a fatty acid with a lower alcohol in a fixed bed reactor filled with a solid acid catalyst, the fatty acid and the vaporized lower alcohol are brought into liquid-gas countercurrent contact or co-current contact before the countercurrent contact. Further, fixed bed reactors are filled with a solid acid catalyst and stacked in multiple stages, and the fatty acid is fed to the uppermost reactor to flow down to the following reactors, while the lower alcohol is fed into the lowermost reactor so that the liquid-gas co- current contact may be realized. Simultaneously, the gaseous lower alcohol from the outlet of the reactor is fed into the upper reactors in order and resultingly the liquid-gas contact can be regarded as in the pseudo-counter-current manner. |
