The sound data recording/reproducing device in a digital audio tape recorder comprises a drum composed of an upper drum and a lower drum, a small-size motor for rotating the drum, a record/reproduction amplifier for amplifying the sound data, a phase synchronization loop for generating a reproduction data clock from the sound data reproduced by the record/reproduction amplifier and outputting the reproduction data clock and the reproduced sound data, a time base controller, a signal processor, and a memory.
