PURPOSE: To provide an optical spatial modulator equipped with a control circuit which is reduced in scale as compared with that of the already existing optical spatial modulator. CONSTITUTION: Each memory cell 12 is shared by each set of pixel elements 11 so that each memory cell 12 can have the same fan-out as those of the other memory cells. Each pixel element 11 in one set is turned on or off through a reset line 13. The line 13 is separated front the reset lines for the other elements 11 in the same set. Frame data are loaded into a split bit frame during a prescribed period. When loading the frame data, only the data to the pixel elements 11 on one reset line are contained in each split bit frame. Therefore, the data can be supplied to all pixel elements 11 in the same fan-out by utilizing the same memory cell 12, because only one pixel element 11 in the fan-out is simultaneously switched. |
