<p>PURPOSE:To provide a coated optical fiber screening method by which the surface defect, such as the ruggedness, etc., of a coated optical fiber can be confirmed in a short time and, as a result, can minimize the discarding length of the fiber when the inspection for surface defect, such as the outside diameter fluctuation, ruggedness, etc., and screening are simultaneously performed on the fiber and the device used for the method. CONSTITUTION:In a screening process in which a coated optical fiber 6 fed from a feeding bobbin 11 is wound after the fiber 6 runs across paired reels 7a and 7b while tension is applied to the fiber 6 from a tension loading device 8, a ruggedness inspecting device inspects the fiber 6 for surface defect and, when ruggedness is found, the running of the fiber 6 is immediately stopped and a rewinding mechanism 13 rewinds the fiber 6 by the length equal to the running distance of the fiber 6 until the fiber 6 is stopped from the detection of ruggedness.</p> |
