Line connection system for digital telephone communication network

A digital telephone exchange system (DIV) is connected (SL) to a number of subscriber units (SUB). The connecting lines can be twin wire cable or coaxial cable. Each subscriber unit has a mains interface (NT). The exchange unit has a digital bit rate generator (DBG) to provide test sequences, a monitoring stage for evaluation purposes and a control unit (CTR) to determine the maximum effective bit rate. The effective bit rate allows each subscriber connection to be used at its highest transmission rate capacity.
