The subject invention is a multiple purpose apparatus and method for installing and removing posts and lifting heavy objects (such as manhole covers). The apparatus includes a lever pivotally connected to a fulcrum stand. Downward force on the lever is transformed into an upward force via the fulcrum, with the force transmitted to the post to be removed or object to be lifted via a post gripper. The post gripper is alternatively either a "C" shaped jaw which grips a metal "T" post or a standard chain and hook which grips a post of varying cross section. Furthermore, the lever may be disconnected from the fulcrum stand and the fulcrum stand slipped over a metal post used to drive the post into the ground.
