Magnetic recording medium with enhanced coercivity

The magnetic recording medium with improved coercivity loop characteristic uses a non-magnetic baseplate, a non-magnetic metallic under layer formed on the baseplate and a thin film magnetic layer covered by a protective layer. The maximum slope angle formed by convex and concave sections of the magnetic medium is set between 0.5 deg. and 8 deg., 1 deg. and 6 deg., 1 deg. and 5 deg. according to the desired characteristic. For a maximum storage density and capacity the coercivity step characteristic is increased to greater than 0.85.
