The engine consists in a diesel engine (preferably with direct injection) to which is added an injection system for the Otto cycle fuel (such as methanol or ethanol, which have a high octane rating) which is installed on the inlet manifold. There will be one tank for the diesel- type fuel and another tank for the Otto-type fuel. This engine functions in the following manner: 1) with small or medium loads, it acts like a conventional diesel engine; 2) with high loads, it acts in the following manner: - ignition occurs, diesel fuel being injected (there are no spark plugs); - the power is adjusted by varying the air/Otto-type fuel mixture ratio (in this engine there is no throttle valve).
