The container is made by cutting and assembling sheet material. It has a base (3) formed from many layers of material, or a single layer, with a total thickness that is greater than that of the sidewalls (2). One of the layers is made from wood fibre with a thickness of between 0.5 mm and 1.5 mm and a density between 200 and 600 g/m2. At least one of the layers of material for the base may use wood peat or paper waste in the proportions not exceeding a third of the weight. One of the layers may also include a treatment product as part of the assembly such as pigmentation, fertiliser or an acidity modifier.
