PURPOSE: To provide a multi-mode radio telephone set and an operating method in which the velocity of a user of a telephone set is taken into consideration in the automatic selection of a telephone system. CONSTITUTION: A radio telephone 200 can be used for a cordless telephone system or a cellular telephone system. The telephone 200 is incorporated with a circuit which detects the velocity of a user so that the telephone may automatically be shifted to a cellular mode from a preferable cordless mode when the user moves at a faster pace. This is to prevent the deterioration of communication quality which frequently occurs when the user of a cordless system moves faster than the walking pace. |
