The invention relates to the removal of hydroxymonocarboxylic acids and tricarboxylic acids, e.g. citric acid and lactic acid, from aqueous solutions, e.g. obtained from fermentation processes, by adsorption on zeolites with a modulus of up to 400. Suitable zeolites are of the dealuminised Y type (DAY), ZSM-5 type and mordenite type.
