Using sub-threshold unipolar pacing makers to improve the interpretation of surface EKG in pacemaker patient

The cardiac pacer appts. includes a pacer housing including a conductive pacer can, and a first endocardial lead having a first electrode disposed on it. A second electrode is disposed proximate the housing and insulated from the pacer can. A pulse generator coupled to the endocardial lead for generating pace pulses. A marker generator is coupled to the pacer can and the second electrode for generating marker codes between them as a function of the pulse generator activity. The second electrode is disposed on the pacer housing and insulated from the pacer can. The marker codes are generated at an electrical potential between 5 mV and 5 V, and nearly simultaneously when the pulse generator generates the pace pulses.
