PURPOSE:To efficiently produce a carbon cluster at a lower cost by using a compact obtained by treating the green compact of an ungraphitized carbon material or difficult-to-graphitize carbon material at a high temp. instead of the compact of a graphitized carbon material. CONSTITUTION:Graphitization is allowed to proceed sufficiently or to some extent by the high-temp. treatment at atmospheric pressure or under pressure to obtain an ungraphitized carbon material A. A difficult-to-graphitize carbon material B is selected from furnace black and thermal black. The powder of the material A or B having <=50mum average grain diameter is compacted at a high temp. with coke as the aggregate and pitch as the binder to produce a carbon cluster producing raw material as the compact consisting only of carbonaceous material having 1.00-2.00Mg/m<3> bulk density, 10muOMEGA.m resistivity and >=10MPa three-point bending strength. |
