PURPOSE:To provide compactness by vertically positioning a crank shaft, positioning balancer shafts at the lower parts at a crank case side, and positioning an intake passage at the crank case side at the upper parts of the balancer shafts to extend in the direction crossing with the crank shaft at right angles in the side view. CONSTITUTION:In this four-cycle engine 6, a crank shaft 15 is vertically positioned in a generally vertical state; and balancer shaft 40, 40 are positioned at the right and the left lower part in a crank chamber A. The balancer shafts 40 are housed in parallel with the crank shaft 15 in housings 40, respectively formed by connecting bulged parts 40a, 40b formed on skirt parts 16b to a crank case 26. An intake manifold 45 is interposed at the upper part of the balancer shaft 40 positioned at the left side of the crank chamber A. The intake manifold 45 is extended to decline in the direction generally crossing the crank chamber A and a cylinder block 61 at its left side with the crank shaft 15 at right angles in the side view, and downwardly from the upperstream side to the downstream side. |
