The apparatus and method is for focusing a moving object automatically. The apparatus includes a current-to-voltage converter(30) for converting output current of a PSD to voltage signal, a bandpass filter(40) for filtering output signal of the current-to-voltage converter(30), an integrator(60) for integrating output signal of the bandpass filter(40), a comparator(70) for comparing output signal of the integrator with a set voltage, a CPU (80) for generating control signals for controlling the integrator, an auto-focusing motor and IR-LED according to output signal of the comparator and counter signal generated by a counter equipped in the CPU(80), and a motor driver(90) for driving an auto-focusing motor according to command signal generated by the CPU(80).
