The light generating device (1) powers two or more illuminated panels (10,11), from a centralised electricity supply. Optical fibre bundles are connected optically at one end to light sources (40,41) and the other to a distributer (100). This distributer injects light from the lamp sources into the display panels. Each panel is associated with at least two fibre bundles (H'0,H'1). The first end of these optical fibre bundles are optically coupled to the light source associated to this bundle and the other end distributed along the illuminated panels. The arrangement of distribution of light from the fibres is determined by the optical coupling arrangement of the distributer. The light sources may be halogen lamps.
