An aqueous composition comprises 2-10% by weight of a polyvinyl pyrrolidine, from 0.1 to 1% by weight of a glass fibre lubricant and from 0.1 to 2% by weight of a coupling agent which is an aminoalkyl alkoxysilane or a hydrolysed derivative thereof. The glass fibre lubricant is preferably a cationic-active acid solubilized, fatty acid amide or an alkyl imidazoline derivative. The composition may also contain a wetting agent.ALSO:An aqueous composition suitable for sizing glass fibres comprises 2-10% by wt. of a polyvinyl pyrrolidone, from 0.1 to 1% by wt. of a glass fibre lubricant and from 0.1 to 2% by wt. of a coupling agent which is an aminoalkyl alkoxysilane or a hydrolysed derivative thereof. The glass fibre lubricant is preferably a cationic active, acid solubilized, fatty acid amide or an alkyl imdazoline derivative. The composition may also contain a wetting agent. The sizing composition is applied to the individual glass fibres during their formation by means of a roller applicator which is partially submerged in the sizing solution. The individual fibres are then grouped into a strand and wound around a forming tube. Alternatively pad application may be used and the strand formed by means of a pair of rotating wheel pullers. The glass fibres are then dried by heating. The sized fibres may then be further treated by drawing through a tube of phenolic resin.
