Proposed is a method and system designed to assure the smooth, rapid execution and automatic control of a tournament, the method comprising the following steps: a) the participants' names are announced and the participants called to take their turn in the tournament by means of one or more electronic displays (2) accessible to a number of potential participants; b) personal-identity data concerning the current participants are entered, up to a given number of participants, via a data-reading unit (3) linked to the display (2); c) the groups of participants playing against each other are arranged in order using a random-access technique; d) on completion of each match, the winner is announced; e) the groups of participants are arranged in order for the next round, and so on, until the final; f) one completion of the tournament, the results are analysed.
