The support device comprises first and second sheets having interior and exterior surfaces and fold lines for permitting the first and second sheets to attain collapsed and expanded configurations. A collapsible and expandable core is collapsible to a collapsed configuration and expandable to an expanded configuration. End portions are fixedly secured to oppositely disposed portions of the interior surfaces of the first and second sheets at positions intermediate the fold lines. A portion disposed upon at least one of the interior surfaces of one of the first and second sheets releasably engages at least one of the side portions of the collapsible and expandable core when the core is disposed in the expanded configuration so as to maintain the collapsible and expandable support device in the expanded configuration.
