A flooring tile comprises a plate (slab, sheet) in the form of an equilateral polygon, at least two sides being provided with coupling elements which delimit intermediate openings for holding corresponding coupling elements. The coupling elements lie in the same plane as a bottom part of the flooring tile, and the coupling elements are covered on at least one side by a top part of the flooring tile. In this way, the coupling elements are arranged in such a way that they are covered by at least one side of the flooring tile, so that when a floor area is covered with the flooring tiles according to the invention only straight connecting seams are visible and the coupling elements are completely covered by the mutually adjoining top parts of the floor tiles.
