PURPOSE:To obtain a lubricating oil additive which significantly improves the cleaning ability of a lubricating oil to thereby enable the lubricating oil to have a reduced concentration of a metallic detergent and a prolonged life. CONSTITUTION:This additive comprises an amine compound (A) represented by the formula and at least one member selected from a way boric acid salts, boric acid esters, and boric acid amides of the compound (A). In the formula, R<1> is an optionally hydroxylated 1-38C hydrocarbon group; R<2> and R<5> are each independently a 1-36C hydrocarbon group or a group represented by (A<8>O)pH; R<3> and R<4> are each a 1-38 hydrocarbon group optionally containing one or more carbon atoms or hydroxyl groups; (l) is a number of 0-30; (m), (n), and (p) each is a number of 0 or larger, provided that the sum of them per molecule is 0-80; the m (A<1>O) groups, n (A<2>O) groups, and P (A<3>O) groups may be the same or different and each is a 2-4C alkyleneoxy group; and the 1 units in []may be the same or different. |
