The radiation-type steam generator with firegate has a fuel-feed hopper, the firebox being divided by a cooled partition (7) at right angles to the grate travel direction and extending upwards from immediately above the layer of fuel. The partition is pref. vertical, being gastight for a height equal to 5 percent to 80 percent of the mean height of the firebox (6), while above this it forms an open pipe grid (8). The top and bottom ends of the partition are connected in the water circuit of the steam generator. Above the join between the cooled partition and the grid free spaces extend upwards to the afterheating surface of the steam generator. The distance between the end wall (4) and the partition is roughly 2/3rds of the depth of the firebox, whose walls (4,5) have air-blast ports (10,11) one above the other, starting roughly 1.5m above the grate.
