PURPOSE: To achieve completely non-invasive assessment of cardiovascular performance of a subject, by applying external pressure synchronously with heartbeat to surrounding organs to change their ventricle load, and obtaining data representing ventricle pressure and volume for evaluation. CONSTITUTION: External pressure sufficiently high enough to change ventricle load is periodically applied through a pneumatically actuated module 2 to surrounding organs of a subject synchronously with the n-th (n>=2) heartbeat cycle. Data representing ventricle pressure and volume of the subject is obtained over multiple heartbeat cycles through respective module of blood pressure 4, intravascular flow measurement 5, Doppler conditioning 6, and ECG measurement 7, and a data acquisition board 9. A CPU 8 determines the relationship between endsystolic pressure and volume during external pressure applied and no-applied heartbeat cycles, and the gradient of the relationship, to obtain approximate values of ventricle elastance of the subject. |
