1,093,589. Plate heat exchangers. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. June 22, 1965 [June 26, 1964], No. 26271/65. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger comprises plates and corrugated fin elements stacked to form a core on one face of which alternate spaces between the plates are open and the intermediate spaces are closed by bars 52. A multipass flow is provided for the fluid flowing in the alternate spaces the passes being defined in part by pass separators 38. These extend into the spaces between the plates and also outwardly beyond the core face where they form together or in conjunction with corresponding projections on the bars 52 (Fig. 7, not shown) a continuous rib extending over the depth of the core. This rib is said to facilitate the securing of headers to the core (Fig. 1). In preferred constructions of the separators 38 (Figs. 3 to 6) the outwardly projecting portions 42 are formed with extensions 46 which extend across the closure bars 52 and abut or interlock with each other to form the rib. The portions 42 may be grooved to receive the headers. |
