The apparatus and method records titles of scenes by using titles stored in a data base in which titles of expected events are recorded. The apparatus includes a microcomputer (2) for storing titles and reading titles stored in a memory according to input key commands, a memory (3) for storing titles, a character signal generator (4) for generating characters according to selected title, an adder (5) for overlapping character signal generated by the character signal generator (4) and video signal to record, and an adder (6) for overlapping the character signal and video signal to display on a display.
