This invention pertains to the maintenance of pressure within a vehicle wheel tire to a pre-set level with the air supply being produced by a pump (1) which is driven by centrifugal force, i.e., the wheel rotation creates a centrifugal force which activates a weight (7) to move a piston which pumps the tire inlet air. The design of the piston (17) and the cylinder (6) provides a high compression ratio and a small enough pump to fit within the tire. Small, seal-tight cylinder exhaust check (8, 16) and pressure regulating (12) valves are included. The piston return spring (19) is located outside the cylinder volume in order to allow the high compression ratio. The small pump piston is driven by the force of a larger weight (7) outside the cylinder (6). The pump can be mounted outside or inside the tire volume. The principle of the pump is also offered in a configuration where the impetus from bumps encountered by the wheel drives the pump.
|
