PURPOSE: To improve the toughness and wear resistance of a cutting tool insert by rounding the edge in a specified micro form dimension. CONSTITUTION: A cutting insert is manufactured so as to decrease the W/H ratio of the nose area and increase H from the nose area toward the center of a main cutting edge in the edge rounding micro form. Namely, the W/H ratio of the nose area is set to about 1.5- about 2.3, preferably, to about 2. H is set to about 30<H<about 100μm. Further, the W/H ratio of the nose area is set to at least 1.25 times the W/H ratio of the main cutting edge, and H of the main cutting edge is set to at least 1.1 times H of the nose area. The curvature radius R1 of flank is set to about 20 - about 60μm. |
