The access ramp (1) is mounted within the access opening (3) of the means of transport (2). The ramp consists of a mechanism (5) for balancing the load, to ease its use in pivoting between a vertical position, where it is folded away, within the access opening, and its position of use, where the outer end is in contact with the ground to form an incline between the ground and the floor (4) of the vehicle. The balancing mechanism is a linear structure, elastically deformable along its axis and linked at one of its ends to a pivot (7) carried by the ramp (1) and at its other end by a pivot (8), which is mounted at a fixed distance and above the ramp pivot point, on a leg (9), fixed to the frame of the access opening.
