The shoe or boot has the outer surface (1) of its sole marked to ensure that the footwear is of the correct size for the child, both when purchased and as the child's feet grow subsequently. The under-surface of the sole has one mark (2) corresponding to the position of the heel and another (3), defined by two lines (4,5), to show where the toe should be when the footwear is purchased and how far they can be allowed to grow before replacement. The child's foot is measured against the sole of the shoe on purchase, making sure that the toes come as far as, or just over, the first line (4) of the toe marker. As the foot grows a check is kept that the toes do not pass the second line (5) of the toe marker before replacement.
|
