The gaming machine has a number of rotatable symbol drums, with respective drives, the relative positions of the drums when they come to rest at the end of play determining whether the player has lost or won. The winnings can be cashed in by the player, or used as a stake for the next game, with each symbol drum rotated individually over a random time interval, or rotated manually, with a win evaluation after each movement. Pref. the symbol drums are mounted on a common axis, with the periphery of each drum having relatively spaced identical bores or notches, in which a ball or pin can locate when the drums are correctly aligned, to indicate a win.
