CONSTITUTION:Image information U showing the average density in which the reduced image information from a scanner 1 is calculated for every number of picture element which is close to the inverse number of a reduction ratio in an average density calculation 2a is generated and the information is converted into image information T according to the reduction ratio in a one-dimensional liner interpolation part 2b. At this time, the density of a picture element T is calculated based on the density of the two picture elements which are adjacent to the image information U. After the image information with this reduction ratio is outputted from a main scanning direction reduction part 2 and is threshold processed in a thresholding part 3, the information is outputted via an image output part 4. Thus, by generating a reduced image from the average density of the picture element sectioned into the variable which is close to the inverse number of the reduction ratio and obtaining the image of a set reduction ratio by a one-dimensional linear interpolation method, the density of each picture element is reflected on an outputted image and the elimination of a very small image can be prevented.
