A device representing an atom in a molecular model comprises seven members a-g each adapted to receive a linear element representing a valence bond. The members a-d are in a substantially tetrahedral relationship, and the members e-g are substantially equi-angularly spaced in a plane. Members a and e are disposed at an angle of substantially 180 degrees and members c and g make an angle of substantially 105 degrees. A molecular model comprises a number of such devices which are interconnected by elements 3 engaging in recesses in the members and hollow elements of square cross section adapted to receive the square sectioned ends of members e-g to prevent relative rotation between connected devices. Each device is preferably made of moulded thermoplastics material. The elements 3 are rods, e.g. of aluminium of different lengths to represent different valence bonds and are dyed with different colours for identification. A double bond may be represented by an element 3 and a hollow element, (Fig. 4, not shown), associated with a single member of each of two devices or by two curved elements each associated with a separate member on the two devices. |
