<p>PURPOSE:To remove a polyimide resin coating layer of specified length from the terminal of an optical fiber in which the polyimide resin layer is laid on fiber elemental wires, easily within a short time, in an optical fiber melting and joining technic. CONSTITUTION:The secondary coating layer of an optical fiber 1 is mechanically drawn and removed and the residual secondary coating adhering to the surface of a polyimide coating, which is a primary coating layer, is removed. Then a polyimide coating layer of a specified length from the end of the optical fiber 1 is heated and melted by a heating apparatus 4 in nitrogen atmosphere. Before the temperature decreases to the temperature at which the polyimide resin changes in its glassy state, methyl alcohol or acetone is sprayed on the fiber to remove the polyimide resin layer 3.</p> |
