Treating dirty lubricant esp. from cold pilger rolling

In the treatment of contaminated chloroparaffin-free coolant/lubricant, esp. from cold pilger rolling, in which the lubricant is withdrawn from the mill when a defined impurity level is reached, the novelty comprises: (a) adding a demulsifier to a container of the contaminated lubricant; (b) stirring at room temp. to separate the solids and oil; (c) withdrawing recovered lubricant from the container; and (d) opt. withdrawing the floating water- and dirt-contg. oil phase from the container for centrifugation to obtain a reprocessable oil. Also claimed is an alternative process, in which the contaminated lubricant is heated to above 90<0> C and decanted, the recovered lubricant is withdrawn, and the water- and dirt-contg. oil phase is opt. withdrawn for reheating to above 90<0> C and then sepn. to obtain a reprocessable oil.
