The method uses a transfer appliance (10) which is mounted axially at right angles to a spool-extractor appliance (110). At least one loader (100) conveys the spools (V) out of a spool box (Wx) to a holder (180) to alter the spools' axial direction from a vertical to a horizontal direction. At least one moving appliance (210) moves between the spool-take-up position (Y) and at least one spool-frame (S). Conveyors convey the spools onto spool-shafts on the side of the spool frame. Partition plates (Wz) separate the spools into different levels.
