Gypsum-based slurry-forming dry material

A slurryable dry material comprises gypsum and spheres or particles of plastic of density less than 1, esp. foamed polystyrene. The ratio of apparent vol. (l) of spheres (beads) to wt. (kg) of gypsum is 0.6-0.9:1, pref. 0.8:1. Also claimed are (i) a lightweight insulating building element consisting of plastic beads homogeneously distributed, in the above ratio, in a gypsum matrix; (ii) a process for prodn. of gypsum-based building elements; and (iii) use of the above material in a process for prodn. of building elements.
