A personal weapon (10) having a barrel (11) aligned along a firing axis XX', optronic sighting means (12) defining a sighting axis YY' for the weapon, and means for controlling firing of ammunition from the weapon, operable by the bearer of said weapon, is characterised in that it comprises means (15, 16; 22, 23; 13, 14; 112, 114) for stabilising the YY' sighting axis, means for detecting angular congruence (16, 24, 25; 48, 49) between sighting axis YY' and firing axis XX', said means generating a firing signal when the two axes coincide, and in that the firing control function incorporates a firing enabling means (18) operable by the bearer of the weapon and an automatic firing means (26) causing the ammunition to be fired when the enabling means (18) has been operated and the congruence detection means deliver the firing signal.
