PURPOSE: To ensure higher operational reliability by providing means for folding a web along the longitudinal direction, means for isolating tension of the web being fed to the folding means from tension of the web in the downstream, and means for outputting the web from the folding means. CONSTITUTION: One or a plurality of web passes over a shoe 82 constituting a folding means 44. Since a part of the web being folded does not touch the shoe 82, upper part of the web touching the shoe 82 must be supported against the entire tension being applied from an apparatus. Tension on the downstream side of the web part 16b and/or 18b in a folding apparatus 10 is isolated effectively from tension of the web discharged from rolls 22, 62 by winding webs 16, 18 around the rolls 22, 62 through an arcuate passage of about 180 deg.. Similarly, in combination with a roll 54, a discharge drag roll 52 having a frictional surface for preventing slippage of the web isolates tension of the web being outputted from tension on the upstream side of discharge drag roll 52. |
