PURPOSE:To improve image contrast and enable the formation and erasure of an image by providing a reversible thermal recording layer containing an electron donating dye precursor and an electron acceptive compd. represented by a specific general formula on a support. CONSTITUTION:A reversible thermal recording material is formed by providing a reversible thermal recording layer containing a usually colorless or light- colored electron donating dye precursor and an electron acceptive compd. represented by formula (wherein n is an integer of 1-3, R<1> is a 1-18C divalent hydrocarbon group, X is a divalent group containing at least one -CONH- bond and R<2> is a 1-24C hydrocarbon group) on a support. As a concrete example of the electron acceptive compd., there is N-n-dodecyl-2-(p-hydroxyphenylthio) acetamide or N-n-octadecyl-2-(p-hydroxyphenylthio)acetamide.
