PURPOSE:To secure favourable riding comfortability on an automobile even at the time of sudden braking operation in the case of furnishing an anti-lock brake system as well as making a differential device provided on the automobile capable of differential limitting. CONSTITUTION:At the time when motive power from an engine is transmitted from the side of a differential case 22 to differential side gears 28, 29, axial direction outer end surfaces 28a, 29a of these differential side gears 28, 29 are frictionally joined to the side of the differential case 22 at a first friction coefficient by thrust force in accordance with external force given from the side of the differential case 22 to the differential side gears 28, 29. At the time when contrary thrust force contrary to the thrust froce works on the differential side gears 28, 29, axial direction inner end surfaces 28b, 29b of these differential side gears 28, 29 are joined to the side of the differential case 22 at a second friction coefficient which is samller than the first friction coefficient by this contrary thrust force.
