<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a new carbostyril derivative useful as a therapeutic agent for schizophrenia, having little antiepinephrine action as an index of alpha-locking action to be as an adverse effect and high selectivity of main action. CONSTITUTION:A carbostyril derivative of formula I [R is a group of formula II (R<1> is a 1-3C alkoxy), a group of formula III (R<2> and R<3> are each Cl or Br; R<4> is H or Cl), 2-methyl-3-nitrophenyl, 3,5-dichlorophenyl, a group of formula IV (R<5> is Cl or Br; R<6> is methyl) with the proviso that in the case of the bond at the 3- and 4-positions being a single bond, the group R in the formula I wherein R<1> is ethoxy and the group of formula II wherein R<2> and R<3> are each Cl at the same time and R<4> is H should not exist] or its salt, such as 7-[4-[4-(2,3- dichlorophenyl)-1-piperazinyl]butoxy]-3,4-dihydrocarbostyril. The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, by reacting a compound of formula V (X<1> is a halogen, mesityloxy, etc.) with a compound of formula VI.</p> |
