A tray particularly for holding dishes, cutlery &c. in their passage through an automatic dishwashing and drying machine, comprises a housing 12 consisting of upper and lower parts 14, 16 which are secured together and each of which is formed as a moulded integral frame unit, preferably of a plastic such as polysyrene. Intersecting baffles extend between the side and end walls of the housing part 16 to form dishreceiving receptacles and ribs 78 connect the end walls of the housing part 14, the parts 14, 16 being secured together by hollow conical members 46, formed at the intersections of the baffles and passing through and upset over apertures in ribs 78, and by tongues 50 integral with or secured to the housing part 16 and secured by riveting, welding or heat sealing in recesses 82 in the end and side walls of the part 14. Recesses 34 in the walls of the housing part 16 and the open grid formation allows the entry of jets of water from above and below and air circulation from the sides. Inner and outer rectangular wire frames of an indexing framework 18 which guides the tray through a washing machine are secured together and to the lower housing 16 by straps 56 the bent ends 64 of which snap into apertures in an inwardly extending flange and depending skirt of the housing. Notches in the free edges of the baffles locate the edges of cups, plates &c. The trays may be stacked for storage or transport. |
