PURPOSE:To surely adjust the position of a line sensor without needlessly increasing the number of line sensor packages in a focus detecting device used to detect the focus state of a photographing lens in a cmaera. CONSTITUTION:In the phase difference type focus detecting device; luminous fluxes coming from different areas in a photographic image plane are respectively received by the light receiving part 39a of the line sensor 36 having plural light receiving parts so as to detect the focus in plural areas in the photographic image plane. The line sensor 36 is divided into plural line sensor packages 36a to 36c, and one or less detection part 41 for a cross area consisting of four light receiving parts 39a to 39d and detecting the focus in a pair of cross areas crossing each other are arranged in each line sensor package. |
