PURPOSE:To change a contraction scale of a map displayed in a display to be the optimum one to be easy to see for a driver automatically, and eliminate need of contraction scale changing operation by the driver by providing a location processing part, a map and vehicle display processing part, a determination part, a map data base, and the display. CONSTITUTION:A location processing part 1 is composed of a GPS, for example, it computation-processes the position, speed, bearing, etc., of a vehicle, and outputs these to a map and vehicle display processing part 2. The processing part 2 reads a map corresponding to a vehicle position from a map data base, and displays 4 it at a proper contraction scale. A determination part 5 detects a vehicle speed based on a signal from the processing part 1, determines the contraction scale of the map corresponding to the speed, and outputs a contraction signal to the processing part 2. The processing part 2 displays the map in the display 4 at the determined contraction scale. These values are possible to be changed properly automatically. A large contraction scale and wide range map is displayed during high speed run of the vehicle, while a small contractions scale and detailed map is displayed in the display 4 during low speed run or stoppage. |
