PROCESS FOR TREATING ALKYLATES TO ENHANCE 2-PHENYL ALKANE ISOMER CONTENT

A process for increasing the level of 2-phenyl alkane isomer in an alkylate product which comprises reacting said product with a modified aluminum chloride catalyst composition having less activity than fresh aluminum chloride catalyst composition. Benzene, aluminum chloride, and HCl (12) and a C10-C13 olefin:paraffin mixture (14) are introduced into reactor (10). The alkylate to be treated is introduced via line (22) through valve (24) either directly into reactor (10) via line (26), or via line (25), into line (28) leading from (10), or both simultaneously. The reaction mixture from (10) is passed via line (28) into settler (30) from which crude alkylate is removed via line (32) and catalyst is removed via line (34). The alkylate to be treated is not introduced into the reactor until the alkylation reaction has been substantially completed.
