摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To markedly improve fuel consumption by using a natural air intake engine and an automatic transmission, attaining the lower fuel consumption in a low fuel consumption region in a low speed high load side of the engine, and also more using this operating region. CONSTITUTION:A natural air suction engine 1 and a transmission 20 of using a continuously variable transmission are provided, and by setting intake valve close timing so as to increase effective compression ratio larger than expansion ratio in at least an engine low speed high load region, further by setting geometrical compression ratio of the engine 1 to high compression raio of 11 or more, a net fuel consumption rate in the low speed high load region is decreased to also set a speed change ratio control characteristic of the continuously variable transmission 20 so as to perform steady running in the low speed high load region, so that this region is more used.</p>
