摘要 PURPOSE:To provide the optical communication path for satisfactorily holding transmission characteristics by performing adjustment so that the amplified peak wavelength of a repeating amplifier can be matched with the transmission wavelength of changed signal light after an optical transmission line is laid and an optical communication system is operated. CONSTITUTION:In this optical communication path, transmission optical fibers 401-40N laid between a transmitter 10 and a receiver 20 are connected over N steps by repeating amplifiers 302-30N. At the repeating amplifier 30M, a variable optical attenuator 70M is connected to the output terminal of an optical fiber amplifier 50M. The attenuation amount of signal light at this variable optical attenuator 70M adjusts the repetition loss of signal light together with the loss amount of signal light at the transmission optical fiber 40M in the following step, and the amplified peak wavelength of a repeating amplifier 30M+1 in the following step is set so as to be matched with the transmission wavelength of signal light. Therefore, the signal light is amplified by the repeating amplifier 30M+1 in the following step into a certain state so as to sufficiently discriminate a signal component corresponding to a noise component. Since this repeating amplification is executed over a lot of steps, the signal light is amplified with satisfactory noise characteristics.
