The LCD display reproduces line-interlaced half-images using plasma channels formed between first electrodes (30) and orthogonally arranged paralled second electrodes (80) covered by dielectric strips (70). The spaces between the second electrodes are filled with discharge gas. The scan is controlled so that one half-image is produced by gas discharges between an odd second electrode and the following even electrode, and the other half-image by discharges between an even second electrode and the following odd electrode. Smaller unitary pixel is achieved with fewer electrodes in address line and no grooves in plasma channel.
