A ship has a bulbous bow, the bulb or part of which is adjustable in the fore-and-aft direction. In Fig. 1 the adjustable portion of the bulb is in the shape of a cylinder A (with a semi-spherical nose) movably guided in the manner of a piston in a cylinder B fixedly built into the hull. The portion A may be hollow and used as a ballast tank. |
